About EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.
Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much faster, like the body recovering from physical trauma.
When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health.
EMDR therapists use detailed protocols and procedures to help clients activate their natural healing processes. EMDR therapy usually includes processing past events, addressing current triggers and looking at future situation.
About family therapy
Family Therapy is a form of Therapy or Counselling Intervention that can support families improve their relationships, coping with difficult life situations such as grief, loss, anger or conflict.
It can help improve family communication, and to gain a better understanding of each others needs.
Family Therapy uses the power of all family members to create positive changes or adjustments for the family. It aims to make things better and not to blame anybody.
Common issues that come up in Family Therapy:
- communication between family members
- coping with change
- coping with grief or loss
- relationships within the family
- boundaries and rules
- emotional climate and how that affects the family members
- influences from previous generations
- managing conflict
- new family constellations
Family Therapy focusses on the family and not on one person. I work with a strengths based and experiential, holistic approach.
